Coaching
You are working on a manuscript but find that you need some guidance. Or, you are merely thinking of writing a book but don't know quite how to get started. I provide one-on-one coaching, tailored to your individual requirements.
Some writers need only a consultation or two, in order to get going or to get back on track. Others prefer to have a coach throughout the entire writing process, until a manuscript is finished enough to send to agents and/or publishers. You may only need coaching on how to approach agents and/or publishers.
I offer advice based on more than fifteen years' experience (please see my résumé).
Critiquing
You have an entire draft of a book, fiction or non-fiction, but you are unable to judge its merits. Let me bring my teaching and consulting experience to bear on your manuscript. You decide whether you need only an overall opinion or a very detailed critique or something in-between.
Editing
After Spell-Check and Grammar-Check, there is Glickfeld-Check. Before you send out that manuscript, you want to ensure that it is in the best possible shape. Let me polish or help you polish your book (or story or brochure).
Our Process
Generally, what I do is read the manuscript, make notations directly on it, provide a written critique, then discuss my evaluation with the author (in-person, by phone or e-mail — whatever works best). I charge by the hour. It isn't possible to predict how many hours I will need to review a manuscript: Some manuscripts can be read through quickly; others require numerous notations to be made on each page. I do not charge for the meeting/discussion to go over my evaluation.
This process can, of course, be modified to accommodate your particular needs.
I work with authors of mainstream and literary fiction and non-fiction. With few exceptions, I do not handle genre fiction (horror, fantasy, mystery). My clients have written on many subjects: psychology, business, history, politics. I'm especially proud of having worked with Flor Fernandez Barrios on her book: BLESSED BY THUNDER: Memoirs of a Cuban Girlhood and Carol Cassella on her best-selling novel Oxygen.
